1. An old clipper blade can be used to shorten manes.
2. Detangler in manes and tails will also repel shavings.
3. Use Vegetable Oil instead of showsheen for detangling manes. Mix in a few drops of Lavender Oil to control dandruff.
4. Use Palmolive dish detergent as a shampoo - works great on greys. 
5. Make a paste of talcum powder and water and then paint it on freshly washed white markings. Leave it on  until you leave for the show and then brush it off. It will stop dust and dirt from getting into the socks!
6. A pair of cheap rubber gloves are great for removing dead hair during shedding season.
7. Buy generic human shampoo for horsey baths.  Much cheaper and just as effective.
8. Cheap human hair brushes make the best mane and tail combs.
9. Wash your grooming brushes regularly and rub a little baby oil through the bristles to keep them soft.
10. A crushed aspirin added to an ordinary shampoo makes a good anti-dandruff shampoo.
11. Coat Sheen Recipe #1: 
1/4 cup baby oil
2 cups water
4 tablespoons apple cidar vinegar
Shake well and apply

1/4 cup baby oil
1/4 cup human hair conditioner
1/4 cup water
2 tablespoons apple cidar vinegar
Shake well and apply
13. Childrens hair detangler can also be used as a showsheen.
14. If your horse has kicks or bites on him and the hair hasn't grown back, try rubbing in Vitamin E cream. Vaseline will also help hair to grow back.
15. Can't find your sweat scraper?  A medium brush will also remove water from the horse's coat.
16. Vaseline will smother external parasites like ticks.
17. If you board at a busy barn, write your name on all of your grooming gear. It's much cheaper than replacing "borrowed" items.
18. In a pinch, furniture polish will work as a mane and tail detangler. It will also add a nice show ring shine. Don't use it too often though as it will strip the hair of natural oils.
19. Watered down efferdent (denture cleaner) will remove yellow stains from white legs.  Rinse WELL to prevent irritation.
20. Spraying a horse's tail with Listerine (regular flavor only as flavored kinds will attract flies) will stop him from rubbing.
21. Dryer sheets will wipe the dust from a horse's coat before entering the show ring.
22. Show grooming - A light touch of baby oil also soothes muzzles that are freshly shaved for shows, and makes them shine.     -Robbi in Florida
23. Show clipping - Shave your horses muzzle rather than clip it. Disposable razors work well and leave the muzzle baby soft. - Charlotte in Florida
24. Go-Jo hand cleaner - when it is too cold to bathe your horse at a winter show, use Go-Jo hand cleaner to remove manure stains. - from Bridie in FL
25. To apply conditioner or MTG to manes and tails, use a Roots Only bottle. It gets the product down to the roots and is cheap at Wal-Mart. - Anonymous, FL
